ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women’s basketball’s head coach Kelly Morrone has announced the completion of her first Great Dane roster.

“Piecing together this roster from start to finish was done with a great deal of attention to fit,” said Morrone. “Now that we are working together and I’m seeing them interact, I know we have a great balance. This is a group of players that are going to play their hearts out for UALbany, the fans, the alumnae, and the community. They are going to be easy to cheer on as they get their momentum going and really exciting to watch play.”

With a combination of domestic and international student-athletes, transfers and freshmen, Coach Morrone has put together a strong team. Including two returning student-athletes, six international and eight domestic students will make up the team. Of the newcomers, six are transfers and six are freshmen.

Alexia Bujold

G | 5-9 | St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, Canada | Géants du Cégep de St-Jean-sur-Richelieu & U17 Team Québec | Cégep de St-Jean-sur-Richelieu

Quick Facts: Bujold led her team to provincial championships in 2025 and 2026. She was named the MVP in 2025 and earned a spot on the 2026 provincial championship all-star team. Winning bronze in both 2025 and 2026, she helped Team Québec win a national championship in 2023.

Morrone on Bujold: “Alexia loves to move without the ball and, especially, get out to run in transition. Her pace is impressive, and her versatility is going to bring a valuable dynamic to our system.”

Sofia Caraus

SG | 5-9 | Centreville, Va. | Team Durant EYBL & Germantown Lady Panthers UAA | Virginia Academy

Quick Facts: Caraus enters her collegiate career as a two-time Virginia State Champion. Individually, she was recognized with a spot on the all-district second team.

Morrone on Caraus: “Sofia is a quick guard with shooting range and playmaking skills. She processes the game quickly, and her footwork to shoot while closely guarded is excellent.”

Sabela Carro

G/F | 5-10 | Pontedeume, A Coruña, Spain | Ensino Lugo | IES Lucus Augusti (Laramie County CC)

Quick Facts: Carro comes to UAlbany after breaking the Laramie County Community College record for total steals (118). As a Golden Eagle, she started 57 games and shot nearly 50% from the field totaling nearly 600 points and 150 assists in two seasons. While at home, she competed in four national championships with Ensino and won the Eixo Atlántico Championship with the Santiago regional team.

Morrone on Carro: “Sabe is aggressive and has a variety of dimensions to her game. She can be utilized in multiple ways offensively and defensively. She is a full-steam-ahead player that will create offense from defense and go until she is stopped.”

Abriyah Cunningham

SG | 6-0 | Syracuse, N.Y. | Syracuse Nets | Liverpool High School

Quick Facts: As a member of the Liverpool High School basketball team, Cunningham competed for three consecutive Section III and regional championships. She also won a NEPSAC AAA Championship. In addition to basketball, she played flag football in high school.

Morrone on Cunninham: “Abriyah is a player that had flare. She will bring a lot of energy to the team. She is a playmaker on the floor who makes a group of five that much better because she is unselfish and just wants to win.”

Jenava Egan

SG | 6-0 | North Attleboro, Mass. | Bay State Jaguars UAA AAU | The Newman School (Boston)

Quick Facts: Egan was a team captain at The Newman School, competing in the NEPSAC AAA, the highest level of prep school basketball in New England. A Rose Classic High School All-Tournament Team selection and NCAA Women’s College Basketball Academy selection, she also competed for the Bay State Jaguars on the Under Armour Association circuit.

Morrone on Egan: “Ava loves to get involved wherever needed. She can shoot, and she consistently crashes the boards for rebounds and hits the steal column often. She has a whatever-it-takes mentality.”

Cadence Johnson

F | 6-0 | Mattapoisett, Mass. | St. Andrew’s School | Merrimack

Quick Facts: Johnson is a transfer from Merrimack who scored over 1,000 points during her high school career. During her time as a Warrior, she came off the bench to average 12.0 minutes per game in 51 total games throughout two seasons. Before beginning her collegiate career, Johnson was named a nominee for the 2022 Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year and the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Team.

Morrone on Johnson: “Cadence is a high-energy player who brings size, versatility, and an intense competitiveness that fits exactly what we are trying to build. She has a contagious passion for the game.”

Noa López Tallón

PG | 5-6 | Sarria, Lugo, Spain | Ensino Lugo | ÍES Xograr Afonso Gómez

Quick Facts: López Tallón made her debut in Spain’s first division with Ensino at just 16 years old. She also represented Spain in multiple international tournaments with the U14 and U15 national teams and competed in eight national championships. In addition to basketball, López Tallón played soccer and participated in rhythmic gymnastics.

Morrone on López Tallón: “Noa is a crafty guard that has an exciting style of play. She loves to get her teammates involved and is aggressive on both sides of the ball in order to do so. She is a competitor through and through.”

Kohen Marshall

CG | 5-8 | Murrieta, Calif. | Vista Murrieta High School | Mt. San Jacinto College

Quick Facts: In two seasons with Mt San Jacinto College, Marshall started 34 and appeared in 55 games. Named First Team All-Inland Empire, she averaged 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game in 2025-26 alone. 

Morrone on Marshall: “Kohen has decision-making ability, a mid-range game, and is a spark on the floor. She likes to dictate pace and brings a toughness that elevates a team.”

Frankie McLain

SG | 5-11 | Pleasant Prairie, Wis. | Midwest Elite Meanstreets EYBL | Spire Academy

Quick Facts: McLain is a two-time Third Team All-Wisconsin honoree. Named first team all-conference in basketball, she also competed in volleyball early in her high school career.

Morrone on McLain: “Frankie is a three-and-D player that looks to space the floor with her perimeter scoring ability. Defensively, she can scramble and cause havoc on and off the ball.”

Shyla Montgomery

PG | 5-7 | Brockton, Mass. | Boston Showstoppers | Lawrence Academy | Daemen

Quick Facts: Montgomery, a graduate transfer from Daemen College, helped lead the Wildcats to five consecutive ECC Championships. A Third-Team All-ECC selection, she led the team in assists per game and holds the NCAA-era single-game record with seven steals. Montgomery, Daemen’s team captain, also competed in soccer and track and field in high school

Morrone on Montgomery: “Shyla is a tremendous defender. Her speed and anticipation allow her to turn defense into offense. With the ball in her hands, Shyla can create for herself and others to really balance a defense.”

Madison Roman

F | 6-0 | Fairfield, Conn. | U16 Exodus EYBL & Empire & Connecticut Premier AAU | Fairfield Ludlowe High School | Merrimack

Quick Facts: Roman comes from Merrimack as a highly decorated player. A unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection in 2025-26, she averaged 13.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game after earning 18 double-doubles throughout the year. In high school, Roman was a two-time Nike Rose Classic All-Star with All-State and Connecticut Scholar-Athlete honors. The Northeast JrNBA representative, she also competed in volleyball and track and field, and holds her high school’s javelin throw record.

Morrone on Roman: “Madi is a whole force. She plays with personality and power. Fans can expect to see her looking to control the paint while throwing impressive assists. Madi is a motivated leader and a winner.”

Daria Shishkina

G | 5-11 | Moscow, Russia | Spire Academy (Geneva, Ohio) | Merrimack

Quick Facts: The third Merrimack player to follow coach Kelly Morrone to UAlbany, Shishkina appeared in 18 games throughout the 2025-26 season and 16 in 2024-25. Coming off the bench, she averaged over 10 minutes per game and shot .382 from the field in 2025-26. Prior to Merrimack, Shishkina attended boarding school at Spire Academy, an elite world-class sports academy.

Morrone on Shishkina: “Daria’s feel for the game gives her the ability to make big plays at both ends of the floor. In games, she has big moments at the right time … a fun player to watch for sure!”
