Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team won its first game of the 2022 campaign. On Friday afternoon, the Great Danes took down the UMES Hawks, 12-4, to kick off a four-game series in Maryland.
Coach Jon Mueller: "Weber gave us a quality start, the defense was clean, and offensively we took advantage of opportunities."

- Weber was dominant in five innnings of work, recording eight strikeouts.
- Brad Malm went 3-5 with two home runs and one double, collecting three RBIs. The home runs were his fourth and fifth of the season in only the team's fourth game.
- John Daly went 3-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
- Carson Dunkel went 2-5 with a triple and two RBIs.
- Chris Fisher also recorded multiple hits, going 2-4 with a triple and one RBI.

- Ray Weber started on the mound for the Great Danes, Cameron Bratton started for the Hawks.
- Brad Malm scored first for UAlbany with a solo home run in the opening inning.
- UAlbany increased the lead to 2-0 in the first following a single from Johnny Marti, scoring John Daly.
- In the bottom of the first, UMES' Riley Horner grounded out to short, scoring Brian Cordell.
- UMES tied the game in the second off a single to center by Derrick Mayes, scoring Ryan Howe.
- Daly took back the lead for the Great Danes with a two-run blast to left field in the third, scoring Malm.
- Carson Dunkel made it 5-2 for UAlbany in the fourth off a single, scoring Jason Bottari.
- The following at bat, Will Binder hit a sac fly to left field to score Dunkel.
- In the same inning, Chris Fisher doubled to left center, scoring Josh Loeffler.
- Fisher scored off a single to left field by Daly to increase UAlbany's lead to 8-2, still in the fourth.
- Blake Rebstock replaced Bratton for UMES at the beginning of the fifth inning.
- In the top of the sixth, Malm hit his second home run of the day - a two-run shot to left field, scoring Fisher.
- Joseph Tobia took the mound for UAlbany in the sixth.
- The Great Danes pushed their lead to 12-2 in the seventh. Dunkel hit a triple to right field, scoring Bottari, and Binder singled to right to score Dunkel.
- Owen Birkman took the mound for UAlbany in the seventh.
- The Hawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and scored twice following a single up the middle by Marcus Brown and a sac fly to center by Nick Roets. Due to en error, only one of the runs was earned.
- Nicholas Jessen replaced Birkman on the mound for UAlbany in the eighth.
