SHORT STORY: The Great Danes earned an early lead but it was New Hampshire going home with the win, Friday night.
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "I'm proud of the fight in this team. We came out and executed really well. Our team played at a high-level today and a couple of bounces would have changed this match. We were killing it at a high rate early and our setters did a great job. We have one more match this weekend where we get to send off three great seniors."
KEY STATS
- Three Great Danes tallied double-digit kills. Freshman Anna Myhal led the team with 17 while sophomore Alexa Harris (12) and sophomore Anissia Wong (10) followed.
- On defense, senior Charlotte Macken and junior Kaleigh Fitzgerald earned a team-high 16 digs each.
- Sophomore Zosia Szczotkiewicz led in a two-setter rotation with 28 assists and senior Malea Stanton followed with 22.
- Stanton topped the team with three service aces. Macken and Szczotkiewicz followed with two each.
- Wong grabbed a team-high four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes notched an early 6-2 lead in the first set.
- After New Hampshire worked for a 9-8 lead, UAlbany added four unanswered points to re-take the lead, 12-9.
- The Wildcats went on a 7-2 scoring run but once again, the Great Danes answered with five-straight points to hold a 20-17 advantage.
- UAlbany finished the first set, 25-21, after a 4-1 scoring run.
- The Wildcats worked for an early 4-2 lead. After holding the lead for much of the second set, UAlbany tied the score at 18 with a 3-0 scoring run.
- Behind by two points, 23-21, the Great Danes finished the set with a 5-1 scoring run to take the set, 26-24, and earn a 2-0 match lead.
- The third set's early lead went to UAlbany, 3-1, before New Hampshire switched it up with a 9-5 advantage.
- The Great Danes took the lead, 12-11, after notching four-straight points.
- Closing out the set with a 6-2 scoring run, the Wildcats earned their first set win.
- After an early lead from UAlbany, 5-2, an eight-point scoring run gave New Hampshire a 10-5 advantage in the fourth set.
- The Wildcats continued with the lead, even extending it to 21-13 before the Great Danes added 10 unanswered points to take a 23-21 advantage.
- New Hampshire finished out the set, tying the match at two, with four points.
- Despite early back-and-forth play, the Wildcats compiled a 6-4 lead.
- A seven-point scoring run from New Hampshire led to a 13-5 advantage, proving to be a difference maker when the Wildcats scored their final two points and won the set, 15-6, thus winning the match, 3-2.
