COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After its second weekend of conference play, UAlbany field hockey has entered the top 25 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
The Great Danes received 193 points to earn the 21st position in the poll. The College of William and Mary sits just above them with 247 for 20th place while Maine is just below with 135 points for 22nd.
The ranking comes after two weekends of incredible play from UAlbany, including its most recent weekend with two double-overtime wins. In the last four games, the Great Danes have tallied 12 goals for three wins. Most recently, UAlbany defeated Vermont (9/30) and #16 Boston College (10/2) in double overtime.
Playing 11 games so far, UAlbany has just three losses on the season - two nationally ranked teams in #11 Penn State (now fifth) (9/3) and #22 Ohio State (now #24) (8/28), and one to Maine (9/25) in shootouts, a team that now holds a top-25 position.
The Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll is a composite ranking of the top 25 teams in the nation each week. Each Division I team with an NFHCA member coach is permitted one vote for the ranking each week.
