How it Happened
- Villanova's first true opportunity came mid-way through the first half when Lyam Mackinnon ripped a rising shot from beyond the 18. UAlbany goalkeeper Carlos Tofern jumped and tipped the ball just enough to have it deflect off the crossbar.
- A corner kick for Villanova in the 30th minute nearly led to a goal, except for Giuliano Lucca manning the near post and stopping the ball from finding the back of the net amid the chaos on the serve.
- Tofern cast aside a pair of successive chances from Villanova in the final 30 seconds of the first half to keep the game tied at zero.
- A corner kick from Saad Faiz in the 51st minute was flicked far post and just out of range of Bjarki Leosson and fell wide of the Villanova goal. On the other end, Tofern made another point-blank save against Mackinnon.
- In the 72nd, UAlbany created a series of chances off a shot from Pantelis Panteli, rebounded to Haflidi Sigurdarson, and ultimately leading to a UAlbany corner kick. The corner set up a shot from Julian Terris, leading to another corner, followed by back-to-back shots from Andrw Weiner and Lucca.
- A defensive foul in the Villanova box led to a penalty kick for UAlbany in the 73rd minute, which Sigurdarson successfully converted to put UAlbany up 1-0. The Great Danes held on to win by the same score to claim their second victory of the season.
- Despite being held without a shot in the first half, UAlbany suffered only a minor shot differential of 10-8 in the second half. Both teams also evenly combined for 12 total corner kicks after halftime.Â
