ANTWERP, Belgium – Former University at Albany field hockey forward
Kelsey Briddell made her first appearance on the U.S. Women's National Team against No. 12 Belgium in the FIH Field Hockey Pro League on Saturday.
Briddell, a Gansevoort, N.Y. native, made her debut on the active No. 15 USWNT roster after being named to the team on April 29. She was part of a group of six athletes making their first appearance on Saturday.
With her USWNT debut, Briddell became the second UAlbany alum to represent the United States, joining former teammate Kelly Bonner Marks. Briddell was a member of the U.S. Women's National Development Team before her promotion to the senior club.
As a Great Dane, Briddell ranks 10th in program history with 20 career assists and was part of back-to-back America East Champion teams in 2014 and 2015. She added 14 goals and totaled 48 points in 84 appearances from 2014-2017. She was also two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection and a 2014 America East All-Rookie Selection.
After Saturday's 3-0 loss to Belgium, USWNT is set to face Belgium again on Sunday, followed by two games against No. 5 Great Britain next weekend.
