Thornton Named MAAC Golfer of the Week

EDISON, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today that University at Albany freshman Amber Thornton has been named the MAAC Women's Golf Player of the Week.
 
Thornton led the Great Danes in her first collegiate outing, shooting 152 (+8) through 36 holes at the Low Country Intercollegiate Invitational in South Carolina. The freshman finished in a tie for 24th place among 80 total golfers. Thornton sank four birdies her first round for a score of 78 (+6), following up that performance with three birdies for a score of 74 (+2). The Great Danes finished the weekend in 14th place out of 16 teams.
 
Amber is the daughter of Kevin Thornton and Hetty Van Der Zwet and has two sisters – Justine and Chloe. She is currently majoring in Criminal Justice.
 
Up next, the Great Danes will head to the Georgia State Invitational hosted by Georgia State University on Mar. 29 and 30.
