ALBANY, N.Y. - The Great Danes are on the road for the America East Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland.
 
Masks will be required inside all buildings on campus.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany opened their home slate with the Crowne Plaza Albany - The Desmond Hotel Volleyball Classic on September 3. The Great Danes closed the tournament defeating Cornell, 3-1 on Sept. 4. 
  • UAlbany opened their season with a 1-2 record at the Syracuse Tournament (Aug. 27-28), defeating UB (Aug. 28), 3-0, for their first win of the season, before beating Marist, 3-1, on Tuesday (Aug. 31). 
  • The Great Danes traveled to Texas for the Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 10-11) and competed in the Jayhawk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas (Sept. 17-18).
  • Closing out their non-conference season, UAlbany hosted Siena for a 3-0 match in the first-ever School Supplies Night (Sept. 22). 
  • The Great Danes began America East play with a 3-2 loss at Binghamton (Sept. 26).
  • UAlbany won their next three conference games, defeating Hartford for a 3-0 victory on October 8 and taking a 3-1 win at NJIT on October 10 after beating Stony Brook (10/3). 
  • Before defeating Hartford for a second time on October 17, the Great Danes fell at New Hampshire in five sets (Oct. 15).
  • UAlbany defeated NJIT in three sets on October 29 and New Hampshire in five sets on October 31.  
  • The Great Danes closed the regular season with two three-set victories over Stony Brook (Nov. 5) and Binghamton (Nov. 12) and a loss to UMBC (Nov. 7).
  • Freshman Oren Abutbul leads the Great Dane offense with 278 kills and 2.73 kills per set. Graduate student Danielle Tedesco follows with 241 kills.
  • Junior Malea Stanton and freshman Elaina Wamhoff serve as the team's main setters. Stanton leads with 653 assists and 6.40 assists/set. Wamhoff follows with 364 assists and 4.33 assists/set. Stanton is also second on the team with 21 service aces and 206 digs.
  • Senior Charlotte Macken owns a team-high on both offense and defense. She leads with 35 service aces, 433 digs, and 4.20 digs per set. 
  • Tedesco leads the blockers with 88.0 total blocks, followed closely by freshman Lilou Stegeman with 87.0. 
  • Other Great Dane standouts include senior Grace Cozad (second on the team with 2.68 kills per set), senior Regan Wright (second on the team with 2.18 digs per set and third on the team with 205 digs and 201 kills), and freshman Anissia Wong (first on the team with nine solo blocks).
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Wildcats closed the regular season 16-11 overall with a 7-5 America East record.
  • New Hampshire opened the season with a 1-2 record at the Mercer Tournament (Aug. 27-28) before tallying a 2-1 finish at the Holly Young Invitational (Sept. 2-4).
  • After earning a midweek victory of Holy Cross (Sept. 8), the Wildcats played in the Dartmouth Invitational (Sept. 10-11) for a 1-2 finish before sharing hosting duties with Merrimack for their own tournament (Sept. 16-18).
  • New Hampshire has found five three-set victories within the conference - Hartford (Sept. 26), NJIT (Oct. 3, Oct. 22), Stony Brook (Oct. 15), and Binghamton (Oct. 29).
  • The matches against UAlbany went into five sets with both teams earning one victory each.
  • After sneaking in two non-conference wins against Merrimack (Oct. 20) and Saint Peter's (Oct. 21), the Wildcats closed the regular season with a win over Binghamton (Nov. 6) and a loss to Hartford (Nov. 7).
  • Abby Sullivan leads the offense with 201 kills while Hannah Serbousek leads with 2.61 kills per set.
  • Setter Wren Macauley has tallied 888 assists, leading the team with 35 services and ranks second with 213 digs.
  • On defense, Mia Paliarini owns a team-high 432 digs while Kelly Kaufman leads with 78.0 total blocks, including a team-high nine solo blocks.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS
  • UAlbany leads the all-time series, 29-28.
  • Both matches during the 2021 season went into five sets with New Hampshire taking the victory on October 15 and UAlbany earning the win on October 31. 
  • In their final meeting of the 2020-21 season, New Hampshire won due to a forfeit by the Great Danes on March 28.
  • Prior to that, UAlbany won the match on Feb. 28, 3-1.
  • During the February contest, Noa Brach led the offense with 15 kills while Malea Stanton and Charlotte Macken led the defense with 22 digs each. Stanton also tallied a team-high 25 assists and two service aces while Brach owned a team-high four blocks against the Wildcats. 
ABOUT STONY BROOK
  • The Seawolves completed the regular season with an even 13-13 overall record and a 7-5 conference record.
  • Stony Brook went 0-3 at the Florida Atlantic Tournament (Aug. 27-28) before going 2-1 at the Towson Tournament (Sept. 3-4), the Stony Brook Invitational (Sept. 10-11), and the Maryland Tournament (Sept. 17-18). 
  • The Seawolves played two individual matches against Hofstra (Sept. 7) and St. John's (Sept. 14) for two losses.
  • Stony Brook opened the conference season at UMBC with a 3-1 loss before splitting the second weekend, beating Binghamton (Oct. 1) and falling to UAlbany (Oct. 3).
  • The Seawolves continued with six wins - New Hampshire (Oct. 8), NJIT (Oct. 15, Nov. 7), Binghamton (Oct. 17), and Hartford (Oct. 22, Oct. 31) - and three losses - New Hampshire (Oct. 24), UAlbany (Nov. 5), and UMBC (Nov. 12).
  • Each of Stony Brook's final eight matches has finished in three sets.
  • Leoni Kunz leads the team with 254 kills while Amiyah De'Long holds the lead with 3.11 kills/set.
  • Torri Henry serves as the main setter, totaling 894 assists on the season. She also holds a team-high 36 service aces.
  • On defense, Kiani Kerstetter leads with 329 digs and Abby Campbell leads the blockers with 70.0 total blocks, including a team-high 10 solo blocks.
SERIES AGAINST THE SEAWOLVES
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 41-17.
  • During both 2021 matches, UAlbany tallied three-set victories (Oct. 3, Nov. 5).
  • Against Stony Brook, the Great Danes' longest win streak lasted 12 straight games from, 2007-2012.
 
ABOUT UMBC
  • The Retrievers closed the regular season undefeated in the conference season with a 12-0 record to host the America East Championship Tournament. Overall, UMBC finished 17-11. 
  • The Retrievers traveled to Florida to play in the FGCU Tournament, finishing with an 0-4 record against FGCU (8/27), South Florida (8/28), Rutgers (8/28), and Miami (8/29).
  • UMBC played at the Cowtown Classic (Sept. 2-3), capturing a win against UT Rio Grande Valley and two losses, Nicholls St and TCU, to round out their trip to Texas.
  • The Retrievers were bested in four sets in a Sept. 7 match against American University.
  • UMBC played at the Charm City Challenge Presented by Sir Speedy, Sept. 10-11, and the Mountaineer Invitational, Sept. 16-17, winning 2 of 3 matches at both tournaments. 
  • The Retrievers opened America East conference play against Stony Brook on Sept. 25, winning 3-1.
  • Mia Bilusic leads the team with 343 kills for a 3.69 kills per set average.
  • Andjelija Draskovic is the team's main setter with 718 assists and a 9.70 assist per set average.
  • On defense, Loren Teter leads the team with 440 digs, for a 4.63 digs per set average, while Beste Ayhan leads with 119 blocks, including a team-high 15 solo blocks. Ayhan also leads the team with 29 service aces.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE RETRIEVERS
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 34-11, winning their first matchup in 2002. 
  • In 2021, UMBC won both matches in four sets.
  • UAlbany's longest win streak lasted 13 games, beginning with a five-set win in November 2007 and ending after a four-set loss in November 2012.
  • The Great Danes competed against the Retrievers in the America East Championship match during the 2020-21 season. UMBC took the five-set win for the title. 
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UMBC closed the regular season undefeated in conference play to take the America Eat Regular Season Champion title and host the America East Championship Tournament.
  • With an 8-4 record, UAlbany enters the tournament as the second seed. The Great Danes have attended the tournament as a top-two seed for the last seven years.
  • New Hampshire will play UAlbany as the third seed in the 7 pm match.
  • Stony Brook closed the season with a 7-5 conference record to round out the four teams competing in the America East Championship Tournament.
  • Hartford (5-7), Binghamton (3-9), and NJIT (0-12) finished their seasons this past weekend.

WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • The Great Dane volleyball team was picked to finish first in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. UMBC and New Hampshire were voted into a tie for second place.
  • UAlbany added seven new players to the roster for the 2021 season.
