Onah Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS – University at Albany track & field student-athlete EJ Onah has earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, announced last Thursday.  Additionally, both the men's and women's track & field program earned All-Academic team honors.
 
The men's team and women's team each pulled down a cumulative GPA of 3.16 to earn the academic recognition.  A total of 264 women's and 199 men's teams were named All-Academic.  The and Iona women (3.87) and men (3.68) earned the highest team GPAs.
 
Onah, a jumper from Ithaca, N.Y., earned a 3.67 GPA studying Business Administration with a minor in English.  During the 2019-20 indoor season, Onah recorded a personal best of 20-03.75 in the long jump and won her third-straight America East title in the event.  She would also win the long jump at the 2020 ECAC Indoor Championships.
 
The women's individual list included 659 athletes representing 178 institutions.  Eight schools claimed at least 10 athletes on the list, led by Oregon's 15.  Additionally, 45 women earned perfect 4.00 GPAs.  The men's list saw 452 athletes from 126 schools, with Minnesota claiming the highest total of 16.  Eighteen men earned a 4.00 GPA.
 
To qualify for the All-Academic honor, an individual must hold a GPA of 3.25 or higher, hold sophomore or higher athletic eligibility, and rank in the top 96 nationally in any event during the indoor season or participate in a championship segment during the outdoor season.  A team must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
