BOSTON – University at Albany baseball's Nick Kondo and Josh Gurnack were named to the America East All-Academic Team for the shortened 2020 season, the conference announced Wednesday. Kondo and Gurnack were amongst a group of 10 student-athletes selected, represented by five of the conference's member institutions.
 
Accounting for the shortened season, and in addition to the statistics the players had a chance to accumulate in 2020, this year's All-Academic selections took into consideration the overall career accomplishments of the student-athletes to bolster their nominations.
 
Kondo, a senior infielder from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., earned his second America East All-Academic selection. He accumulated a 3.68 GPA studying Business Administration. Kondo started all-12 games at shortstop for UAlbany, hitting .178 with seven runs, two doubles, five RBIs and six walks.
 
In 2019, Kondo was named America East First Team behind 50 starts with a team-leading .324 average, .432 on base percentage, 45 runs, 28 walks and 17 stolen bases, all top-10 in the America East. For his career, Kondo has a .251 average with 88 hits and 60 RBIs.
 
Gurnack, a junior catcher from Scotland, Conn., earns his second America East All-Academic honor behind a 3.82 GPA studying Human Biology and Psychology. He started a team-high seven games at catcher and had a .385 batting average in 13 plate appearances with two runs and two RBIs.
 
Gurnack served as UAlbany's backup catcher in 2019 when he appeared in 29 games, with 19 starts, and accumulated seven runs, three RBIs, six walks and nine hits in 54 at bats. He also had a .981 fielding percentage. For his career, Gurnack has a .192 batting average with a .974 fielding percentage.
 
UAlbany was 7-5 and on a three-series winning streak in 2020 at the time the season was cancelled.
