Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team won the first of a three-game series against NJIT on Friday afternoon, 7-5.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Really good start to weekend. Matthew Mariano continues to pick us up whenever his name is called. Many contributors on offense with John Vitucci's hit stretching the lead late. Defense was solid."

Key Stats: How it Happened:
  • After loading the bases, UAlbany put up four runs in the top of the first courtesy of a Levi McAllister RBI single, a 2 RBI single from Jackson Mueller that advanced McAllister to third, and a Brian Guerrero RBI single to make it 4-0 after one.
  • NJIT got on the board in the top of the second with a sac fly to make it 4-1.
  • The Highlanders added another run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 4-2.
  • NJIT got a pair across in the top of the fourth to tie it up at four a piece.
  • The Great Danes retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Tre Mariano two-RBI single to make it 6-4.
  • The Highlanders cut the lead in half with a solo homerun in the top of the seventh to make it 6-5.
  • UAlbany pushed the lead back to two when John Vitucci roped a double into right to score Mueller and make it 7-5.
  • NJIT was unable to score in the top of the ninth, and the Great Danes walked away with a 7-5 win.
