Women’s Track & Field Attains Highest-Ever Regional Ranking

NEW ORLEANS – The University at Albany women's track & field team moved up two spots to land second in the Week 2 Northeast Regional Poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Coaches Association announced Monday.  It is the highest-ever indoor regional ranking for the women's team, which had previously capped out at third in Week 5 of 2015, as well as eight times during the outdoor season, seven of which came in 2019.

Harvard held the women's top spot, nearly 200 points ahead of UAlbany.  Behind the Great Danes, Dartmouth, Army, and Connecticut rounded out the top-five.  UMass Lowell rounded out the women's poll, jumping one spot to enter at 15.  No other America East schools were ranked.

The women currently hold 11 regional top-10 performances through the early part of the season, led by EJ Onah who leads the Northeast in the long jump:

The men were ranked sixth in the Northeast, up four places from their spot last week.  Connecticut retained their top spot from Week 1, followed by Harvard, Army, Northeastern, and Yale.  Binghamton slotted in just behind UAlbany in seventh as the only other America East school in the top-15.

The men hold nine regional top-10 marks this year, led by Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina, whose school record in the 200m this past weekend leads all Northeast performances:
