No. 20 Field Hockey Wraps Up Road Trip In Rhode Island

ALBANY, N.Y. – The No. 20 UAlbany field hockey team wraps up its five-game road swing with a pair of weekend games in Rhode Island. The Great Danes are set to battle Brown on Saturday, Sept. 21 before jumping into a Sunday matinee at Bryant on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Where They Stand:

  • The Great Danes own a 3-3 clip so far in 2019. UAlbany is coming off a Tuesday win at Colgate in which they toppled the Red Raiders, 4-0.
  • Brown (1-4) enters Saturday's contest on a four game skid. The Bears hold a 1-1 record at home.
  • Bryant has yet to find the win column this fall and currently sits at 0-5. The Bulldogs will play Hofstra on Friday before welcoming the Great Danes on Sunday.

  • In the cage, Allee Ayles (1-4) is spouting a 3.15 goals against average and 23 saves.

  • The Bulldogs have been shutout in every game so far this season.
  • Marijn Jaarsma holds a 2.69 goals against average and a .732 save percentage in the cage.

 

Not So Sophomore Slump

Sophomore Kelsey McCrudden is off to a hot start in 2019. Through six games so far this season, the back has already set career highs in assists (8) and points (10). Earlier this season, McCrudden tallied a personal-best four assists in a win at Colgate (9/17). Her four-assist performance ranks second all-time in program history.

 

Seven, Seven, Seven

Senior Dana Bozek had herself a career day with a three-goal, seven-point performance in a 4-0 win against Colgate (9/17). Her seven points sit tied for sixth all-time in program history.

 

Roaring 20's

UAlbany has climbed its way to No. 20 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll. The Great Danes were picked 22nd in the coaches preseason poll to begin the season.

 

Home Sweet Home

The Great Danes, who went a perfect 9-0 at home last season, have proven they are one of the toughest teams in the country to beat on their home turf. UAlbany boasts an impressive 42-10 record at home dating back to the 2013 season.

 

So International

The Great Danes currently have four foreign players on the roster. Two Great Danes hail from the Netherlands: freshman Pelou Bakker and freshman Julie Rudijk. Junior Katie MacCallum is from Scotland and junior Cosima Rocktaeschel is from Germany.

 

Great Danes Picked to Win the America East

For the second straight season, UAlbany was picked to win the America East in the preseason coaches' poll. UAlbany received five first-place votes and accumulated a total of 25 points, exceeding second-place Maine, who received 21 points and the last remaining first-place vote.

 

She's Got Gold Around Her Neck

Returning starter Katie MacCallum donned blue and white this summer to represent Team Scotland. MacCallum was a member of the 2019 Scotland U-21 National Team that won gold in the EuroHockey Championship.

  • Senior Dana Bozek's seven points (3g, 1a) at Colgate rank sixth all-time in program history.
  • Freshman Lillian Hickey recorded her first collegiate point with an assist in a 2-0 win against Miami (OH) on Aug. 31. Hickey later scored her first collegiate goal against No. 5 Harvard on Sept. 6.
