LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University at Albany volleyball program has been honored with the Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as announced by the AVCA on Monday.
UAlbany was one of 189 Division I teams to collect an AVCA Team Academic award. The Purple and Gold posted a 3.401 team GPA in the academic year.
The Great Danes' stellar display in the classroom was coupled with success on the court, as UAlbany boasted a 10-3 clip in conference play and made the program's 13th appearance in the America East Championship.
The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
UAlbany begins its 2019 season Friday, Aug. 30, when the Great Danes face Idaho State in a tournament hosted by Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The Great Danes home opener will be Friday, October 4, when UAlbany hosts New Hampshire in its first America East match.
