BOSTON – For the third time this season, University at Albany redshirt-freshman Cameron Healy has been named America East Rookie of the Week for men's basketball, the conference offices announced Monday. He was named alongside Stony Brook's Akwasi Yeboah, who was named Player of the Week.
Healy, a guard from Sydney Australia, averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 55% from the floor leading the Great Danes to two victories last week. In both games, at Stony Brook and home vs. UMBC, UAlbany avenged previous one-point, overtime losses to their opponents in the first meetings of the season.
Against Stony Brook, Healy scored 14 of UAlbany's first 19 points, including the first five straight. He finished with 24 points to lead all scorers in the game. He followed up that performance with 21 points against UMBC on just seven shots. He also drained five three-pointers, bringing his season total to 95, which sets a new program record, surpassing the previous record of 94 set in the 1999-00 season by Matthew Haggarty.
Healy's efforts have, in-part, helped propel UAlbany to fifth place in the America East standings, two games behind fourth-place Hartford with three games to play, including one against the Hawks. He currently ranks eighth nationally in scoring among freshmen, averaging 16.7 points per game.
UAlbany hosts its final regular-season home game on Wednesday, February 27, against New Hampshire. The game will be this season's Senior Night, and will feature a brief ceremony honoring the two senior's on the 2018-19 squad, Devonte Campbell and Rayshawn Miller.
