Men?s Soccer Falls 5-3 At Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Ending its five-game road trip, the University at Albany men's soccer team (3-3-1) fell 5-3 visiting Boston College (5-2-0) Tuesday.  It was the third consecutive New England area opponent that the Great Danes had faced.

After struggling on offense for a few games, UAlbany finally broke through against the Eagles, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.  Carlos Clark scored first for UAlbany in the 25th minute on a header off a corner kick from Moosah Khanat.  In the 42nd minute, Leo Melgar scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

Boston College quickly responded, with Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel scoring on a penalty kick to put the Eagles on the board.  The first half ended with UAlbany holding a 2-1 lead.

Boston College scored an equalizing goal quickly after the halftime break, with Simon Enstrom scoring on a give-and-go on the right side.  The Eagles scored to take their first lead of the game in the 68th minute, with Schulze-Geisthovel's second goal of the afternoon.  The Eagles scored again six minutes later when Zeiko Lewis ripped a shot off a rebound from Trevor Davock, giving Boston College a 4-2 lead.

The Great Danes were able to pull within one when Afonso Pinheiro scored in the 83rd minute off a cross from the right side from Nico Solabarrieta for the Great Danes' third goal.  Boston College scored once more in the 90th minute to bring the final score 5-3.

The three goals for UAlbany Tuesday are the most the team has scored in a single game all season.  The three goals also came on just five shots.

“Today was an exciting game for the neutral,” said head coach Trevor Gorman.  “We see great value in the experience of playing a top program like Boston College.  We had some really good moments and were put into situations where we faced challenges that will make us stronger for the games ahead.”

With the long road trip now completed, the Great Danes look towards hosting their first home game in nearly a month.  They will face LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.
