UAlbany Establishes Daniel L. Barnes '07 Memorial Scholarship, Kyle McClancy to be First Recipient

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany has established the Daniel L. Barnes '07 Memorial Scholarship in honor of Barnes, a former Great Dane student-athlete who passed away in March 2015 from cancer.
Barnes was a two-sport athlete for UAlbany, playing football from 2003-06, serving as a team captain as a senior, and lacrosse in the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He graduated cum laude from UAlbany in 2007 in history and later earned his Master's Degree at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
The scholarship will be awarded to a UAlbany men's lacrosse or football student-athlete who demonstrates academic excellence and good sportsmanship.
The first recipient of this scholarship will be men's lacrosse student-athlete Kyle McClancy. A sophomore, McClancy stands with a 3.96 GPA as a dual major in accounting and economics and a business minor. On the field, McClancy is a starter in UAlbany's first midfield, earning a place on the America East All-Rookie Team last year.
The scholarship will be announced before the Spring Stomp men's lacrosse game on Saturday, April 16th at pregame. Family and friends of Barnes will be in attendance at the pregame ceremony.
