This Week in UAlbany Athletics: August 21

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's soccer program opens the season at home with two games at Casey Stadium this week. See below for this week’s full schedule as well as a breakdown of all events in the Capital Region.

Thursday, August 21

The Great Danes look to bounce back from their opener at Georgia as they return to action against Sacred Heart. UAlbany generated its lone shot of the match from Selma Elverum, while goalkeeper Claudia Volino recorded seven saves in her season debut. Sacred Heart comes in off a scoreless draw with Vermont, where Shea Kelleher and Morgan Bovardi each tallied multiple shots and keeper Kyran Thievon posted a four-save shutout.

The Pioneers hold a 4-1 lead in the all-time series. UAlbany earned its only win on August 26, 2011, with a 3-2 overtime victory.

Sunday, August 24

UAlbany continues its non-conference stretch with a road clash against Army. Elverum remains an option to spark the attack, while Volino anchors the back line after facing heavy pressure in the opener. Army split its opening weekend, falling 1-0 at Providence before a 4-1 victory at Manhattan. Sophia Henry leads the Black Knights with two goals, while Brigid Duffy and Daisy West have each added one. Goalkeeper Karalyn Dail started both matches, allowing two goals across both games. 

The Black Knights hold an 8-1 lead in the all-time series. Army won the most recent meeting on September 13, 2023, by a 3-0 margin.
