LOS ANGELES, CALIF.. – The Honda Sport Award winner for field hockey, University at Albany midfielder Paula Heuser will trek the globe to be honored at the Honda Cup Awards on Monday, June 29th at 9:00 p.m. ET. The presentation will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

The Collegiate Women Sports Awards presented by Honda assembles the top female student-athletes in the nation on an annual basis. First, the CWSA awards women in 12 NCAA-sanctioned varsity sports including cross country, field hockey, soccer, volleyball, swimming and diving, basketball, gymnastics, lacrosse, golf, softball, tennis and track & field. The board of directors selects the overall Honda Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year, as well as a top-three.

Since the 1976-77 academic year, the CWSA has named a Woman Athlete of the Year. Previous winners include Mia Hamm (1993-94, women's soccer, UNC), Rebecca Lobo (1994-95, basketball, UConn), Misty May (1998-99, volleyball, Long Beach State), Candace Parker (2007-08, basketball, Tennessee) and Maya Moore (2009-10 & 2010-11, basketball, UConn). A field hockey player has never been named the Woman Athlete of the Year.

Heuser became the first all-time Great Dane to earn the Honda Sport Award in 2014-15, after being named the NFHCA National Player of the Year. The Germany native is the first underclassman all-time to be named D-I Player of the Year. She is also a two-time NFHCA All-American and America East Midfielder of the Year. The sophomore was the NFHCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and a pick for the All-Region First Team for the second straight season.

  • Ranks third all-time and second in UAlbany Division I program history in career goals with 46 after just her sophomore season
  • Ranked in the top five nationally throughout the season in points per game and goals per game
  • Spent six weeks as the nation's leader in points per game
  • An NCAA All-Tournament Team selection after tallying an assist on the game-winning goal in the First Round against Wake Forest
  • Selected as NFHCA Northeast Region Player of the Year
  • Named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team for the second straight season
  • America East Tournament Most Outstanding Performer after posting an all-time record nine points in two games (4g, 1a), also selected to All-Tournament Team
  • Unanimous pick for America East Midfielder of the Year, her second time winning the honor and first all-time in league history to win it in back-to-back seasons
  • A unanimous selection to the America East All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive season
  • America East Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year
  • Selected to the America East All-Academic Team
