Four Compete On Day One of East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The NCAA East Preliminary Championships began Thursday, and four of the University at Albany's 10 participants saw action in their respective events. Of the four who competed, only one advanced to the next round of their event.
Grace Claxton placed 22nd overall in the first round of the women's 400, earning a qualifying berth into Friday's quarterfinal round. She crossed the line in 53.42. The quarterfinal round is scheduled for Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Veleisha Walker opened up competition for the Great Danes in the women's javelin. She placed 42nd overall, throwing 137'-6”. Robert Harris III was UAlbany's first track athlete to compete, having qualified for the men's 100. He placed 35th overall in 10.66. Jason Tomlinson was the final UAlbany competitor on Thursday, competing in the men's 400. He placed 28th overall in 47.14.
Tomorrow, Claxton will be the only UAlbany track competitor, while Nathan Hiett will compete in the men's pole vault at 4:30 p.m., and Matthew Campbell and Kingsley Ogbonna will compete in the men's high jump at 5:00 p.m.
