Golf Sets For Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany women's golf team returns to action this weekend, competing in the Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament runs Friday through Sunday at The Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn.
THE COURSE
The Course at Yale in New Haven, Conn. is a Par 71, 6,044 yard course designed by Charles Blari Macdonald and opened in 1924. Large deeply bunkered greens and narrow rolling fairways are the core of Yale's penalizing character. In 1988, Golf Magazine ranked Yale as 71st among the 100 most difficult courses in the world. Many recognize the layout as the best collegiate course in the nation. Two of the holes- the 432-yard par-4 fourth and the 238-yard par-3 ninth - have been ranked among the 100 most difficult holes. The Yale course has been the site of every significant state championship, two USGA Junior National events, the 1991 NCAA Eastern Regional championships, the 1991 ECAC Men's Championship, and the 1992 ECAC Women's Championship. During the NCAA tourney, only 21 subpar rounds were recorded of the 360 played during the three days. The course has also been the home of the Nike Connecticut Open.
THE FIELD
UAlbany will battle alongside 16 teams from Yale, Seton Hall, West Florida, Dartmouth, Rutgers, Boston University, Penn, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Harvard, Central Connecticut State, Xavier, Boston College, Brown and LIU Brooklyn.
LAST TIME OUT
UAlbany placed second out of four competing teams last Sunday at Albany Country Club, shooting a 330 in the 18-hole match. The Great Danes beat out Niagara (336) and cross-town rival Siena (338), while Brown took the crown with a 325. Freshman Annie Lee and sophomore Paige Fujihara both shot an 81 to lead UAlbany. Sophomores Nicolette Darois and Rosalee Hearns followed, each with an 84, while freshman Tiffany Kuroki rounded out the Danes' lineup with an 85.
