RICHMOND, Va. -- University at Albany junior safety Kyle Sakowski has been named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday. The honor marks the first in Sakowski's career and the team's 10th CAA accolade this season.

SAKOWSKI NOTES:  Junior Kyle Sakowski led UAlbany to a 27-17 win over Stony Brook on the defensive side of the ball as he recorded two key interceptions and a fumble force and recovery … In addition, he added four tackles, including one for a loss … Sakowski ended Stony Brook's drive in the closing minutes of the first half, ripping the ball from running back Stacey Bedell, which allowed UAlbany to take a 7-3 lead into the break … In the second half, Sakowski picked off a pass in the Seawolves' first possession – UAlbany scored a field goal off the turnover … Sakowski sealed the victory for the Danes, intercepting Stony Brook's Hail Mary pass in the closing seconds.

UAlbany's win over Stony Brook wrapped up the Great Danes' season with a 7-5 overall record in 3-5 mark in CAA play.
