MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY – Competing for the Panamanian national team for the fifth time since May, University at Albany high jumper Alexander Bowen placed third overall in the high jump at the U-23 South American Championships on Sunday.  Bowen cleared a height of 7'-0.5”.

Brazil's Fernando Carvalho Ferreira won the high jump, clearing a height of 7'-4.25”.  Venezuela's Javier Yañez Eure was second, clearing 7'-1.75.  Bowen had previously won the Central American Championships back in June.

Bowen competed in two meets for Panama in August.  He placed sixth at the Ibero-American Championships in Brazil, clearing 7'-0.5”.  Two weeks later, he placed seventh in the Pan American Festival in Mexico, clearing 6'-10.75”.

Bowen has one more Team Panama event scheduled for 2014, the Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for November 14 through November 30 in Veracruz, Mexico.  Afterwards, Bowen will turn his attention to preparing for UAlbany's indoor season, which begins in January.
