UAlbany Volleyball Earns Clean Sweep of America East Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a pair of home victories in conference play this weekend, UAlbany has earned all three America East weekly honors, Player, Setter and Rookie, for the period ending October 12th.

Amanda Dolan is honored as America East Player of the Week, Mikala McCauley is the Setter of the Week and Emily Lopes is selected as Rookie of the Week.

This is the first time since September 23, 2002 that UAlbany volleyball team has won three America East honors in the same week.  That week, Alexis Bowens won Player, Jill Dombrowski won Setter and Eileen Rodriguez won Rookie of the Week.  The last time the team won at least two was on October 8, 2012, when Sara Pope won Player of the Week and Gabby Whitworth won Rookie of the Week.

It is the first time since October 29, 2012 that any America East team, Stony Brook, swept the volleyball weekly awards.

Dolan, McCauley and Lopes were key players in UAlbany's weekend wins over then-first place Stony Brook in four then Hartford in five.  With the victories, UAlbany currently has a half-match lead in the America East over UNH.

All three players are earning their first weekly award of the season.  It is the second week-running that UAlbany has earned a weekly award, with Laini Leindecker being honored as the Player of the Week last week.

Dolan, earning her third weekly honor and first Player of the Week award of her collegiate career, hit a phenomenal .426 over the weekend, earning 31 kills on 61 attacks with only five attack errors.  The sophomore middle blocker added 14 total blocks in the matches.  She earned a career-high 19 kills in the win over Hartford, adding six blocks.

McCauley, also earning her third weekly collegiate award and first Setter of the Week honor, served as the setter in the two matches as UAlbany hit .204 in the wins.  The sophomore combined for 95 assists, 23 digs and four kills, including a double-double against Hartford with a season-high 57 assists and 14 digs.

Lopes notches her first collegiate weekly honor as a fixture of the UAlbany back row.  She combined for 34 digs and two aces in the wins, including a career-high 19 digs and both aces against Stony Brook.

UAlbany will complete its three-match homestand on Friday, October 17th, hosting UMBC at 7 p.m. in the University Gym.
