Men's Indoor Has Strong Showing At Armory Collegiate

NEW YORK -- With more than 100 universities and colleges,
including 23 teams ranked in the top-25 of the men's and women's national polls
attending the 2013 Armory Collegiate Invitational, the University at Albany men's
indoor track and field team shone with some of the nation's most elite competition. Earning 18 points, UAlbany placed 17th out of a talented 47-team field.
The Great Danes added three more IC4A qualifiers to the pile,
as senior Charles Karam (1:04.98) and junior Daryl Subran (1:05.10) finished
fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 500m dash. In addition, Kadeem Howell
recorded his personal indoor best in the long jump with a leap of 23-00.75,
good for eighth place.
Senior Alex Petit-Frere also had his best indoor run with a
48.54 mark in the 400m dash, placing second. In addition, Donald Williams Jr. finished
second with a 6.91 time in the 60m dash.
The 4x400m relay team consisting of Taariq Jones,
Petit-Frere, Karam, and Jonathan Santana took first in the New York race with a
time of 3:15.65, as the 4x200m relay squad with Kareem Morris, Jones, Jake
Rachiele, and Santana posted a fourth-place time of 1:27.92.
Other track highlights included Rudje Beckford's fifth-place
finish in the 60m hurdles, running an 8.38. Christopher Buchanan also placed
fifth in the 3,000m with a time of 8:29.03, while John DeLallo's 4:13.41 mile
earned him sixth.
In the field, Alexander Bowen matched his own program high
jump record, leaping 7-01.00, ranking third on the day. Junior pole vaulter
Alfonso Scannapieco also had a solid performance with his best bound of the
season (17-00.75).
UAlbany is back in action Feb. 11-12 in Boston, Mass. for
the America East Championship. The men will look to capture their eighth
straight title.
