SOMERSET, N.J. -- The University at Albany football program
proved not only its athletic excellence this season, but also it academic
success, as 19 Great Danes were named to the Northeast Conference Fall Academic
Honor Roll, announced by the league office Thursday.
The fall Academic Honor Roll consists of 820 NEC student-athletes
with a 3.20 or better grade-point average.
Senior Jordan Migliore and sophomore Zach Morton highlighted
the group, earning slots on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. The Commissioner's
Honor Roll recognizes those superior student-athletes with a 3.75 or better
grade point average. Migliore, a criminal justice major from Closter,
N.J., owns a cumulative 3.75 GPA and was a key member of the
offensive line. Morton, a biology major from Burnt Hills, N.Y., boasts a 4.00
cumulative GPA, while playing in all 11 of UAlbany's games on the defensive
line.
In their last season competing in the NEC, UAlbany won its
sixth NEC title with a 9-2 overall record and 7-1 league mark. The Great Danes ranked
as high as No. 18 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the Sports Network
Top-25 during the fall and tied the program's Division I record for wins in a season,
while winning nine FCS games in a regular season for the first time. In addition,
nine Great Danes earned All-NEC honors, including six first-teamers.
Head Coach Bob Ford (264-180-1) will lead the Great Danes
into the 41st varsity season, the Colonial Athletic Association, and
a brand new stadium in 2013.
