Softball Wins Fourth Straight Over George Mason, 11-7

Fairfax, Va.- Senior Katie Wambold went a perfect 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs in the victory over George Mason, 11-7, on Friday, March 16 in the Cherry Blossom Classic. The Great Danes imporves to 8-5 and will play Bowling Green and George Mason on day two of the Cherry Blossom Classic.

Brittany Schwieger (4-1) pitched six and two-thirds innings of relief, after Allie Weiser allowed five runs in two-thirds innings pitch, giving up two runs (one unearned) on seven hits and striking out seven.

UAlbany went up 1-0 in the top of the first after a Wambold single up the middle to drive in Mel Herndon.

George Mason scored five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the first inning. The Great Danes would respond with five more runs on four hits, including two RBI triples, one by Vicky McFarland and one by Charlise Castro.

With the game tied at seven, UAlbany would score two runs in the fifth on one hit then score two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, one run from a RBI triple off the bat of Kylie Apostolina.
