Wright totaled 31 kills while Brooke Stanley recorded a double-double, as the
Great Danes split matches with Akron and Ohio State at the Sports Imports
Classic Volleyball tournament, hosted by the Buckeyes at St. John Arena on
Friday. The Great Danes defeated Akron, 3-1,
with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-29, before falling to Ohio State,
3-1, with scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-27 and 27-25.
Against Akron,
Wright recorded a match-high 16 kills on .414 hitting, while also totaling
three block assists. Dunja Prgomet added 11 kills for the Great Danes' offense,
also finishing with 10 digs for a double-double. Gabby Whitworth and Stanley
recorded eight kills apiece, while Stanley
totaled a match-high 40 assists and added eight digs and one service ace.
Libero Laurie Gonzalez came up with 36 digs to lead the Great Danes
defensively.
Courtney Jarvis recorded a double-double for Akron (3-8), finishing
with 14 kills and 14 digs. Kymberle Gordon added 12 kills on .400 hitting,
while Jill Paluch totaled a team-best 18 digs. Setter Chelsea Harvey also
finished with a double-double of the assist-dig variety, finishing with 37
assists and 17 digs.
In the later match, Stanley
recorded a double-double for UAlbany, notching 41 assists and 14 digs, while
Wright totaled a team-high 15 kills. Progomet added 14 kills, while Gonzalez
had another stellar defensive performance with a team-high 20 digs. Freshman
Samantha Brostrom added nine kills and 10 digs for the Great Danes.
Mari Hole led Ohio
State (8-3) with 24
kills, also adding 15 digs and four block assists. Emily Danks added 20 kills
on team-high .319 hitting, tallying 12 digs and three service aces. Taylor
Sherwin recorded the third double-double for the Buckeyes, finishing with a
match-best 54 assists and 14 digs. Ohio
State outblocked the
Great Danes, 11-0, led by Anna Faul, who finished with seven block assists.
UAlbany (3-8) will continue play at Ohio
State on Saturday, taking on ACC foe Maryland.
