UAlbany Falls to Dawson All-Stars' Fourth-Quarter Rally in Third Canadian Exhibition Contest

Montreal, Quebec - Ricky Volcy scored a game-high 33 points in leading the Dawson College All-Stars to a 90-86 exhibition victory over UAlbany on Monday, Aug. 22 at Tony Proudfoot Gymnasium. The Great Danes, who were playing the third of four games on a tour of Quebec and Ontario, Canada, meet the University of Ottawa on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
UAlbany built leads of 43-34 at halftime and 68-59 after three quarters, but the collection of all-stars rallied in the final 10 minutes of play. Logan Aronhalt and Gerardo Suero, a junior college transfer, led the Great Danes' offense with 28 and 25 points, respectively. Jayson Guerrier, a 6-foot-4 swingman, added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
"This might have been the most physical game I have been a part of as a coach," UAlbany coach Will Brown stated. "The all-star team was big and physical and had several European professionals on the roster. We got in really bad foul trouble which hurt."
Brown added, "Mike Black was knocked out of the game late in the second quarter and Jacob Iati wasn't available (rib injury) tonight. We were forced to play very small and had no point guard in the second half. (Ralph) Watts did a good job handling the ball, but was plagued by fouls. I thought we competed very well and had opportunities down the stretch."
The Great Danes had opened this seven-day tour with victories over the University of Quebec at Montreal (86-57) and McGill University (83-58) over the weekend.

Logan Aronhalt Blog (Aug. 22, 10:25 p.m.) - We just got done with our third and final game here in Montreal (Quebec). Lost a tough one tonight to a very talented team. It was a battle from start to end and some of the guys really learned a lot from the experience. Hopefully we can build from it and use the experience in the next game and the upcoming season.
We had a busy day of sightseeing Sunday. Unfortunately, it rained for a while, but we made the most of it with a couple of cheap umbrellas. We visited St. Joseph's Oratory first. The place was almost surreal. It was amazing to see the power of religion and what can be accomplished with faith. The place was one of the most impressive structures I have ever seen. The most amazing thing about the oratory was the crutches of the people who asked to be healed and were actually healed. There must have been thousands of crutches there!
We also visited Old Montreal. It was an older part of Montreal near the Saint Lawrence River. There were lots of great little shops and restaurants there. We stopped at a little French bistro for lunch. We had a quality meal and a good experience. Some of the guys rented quadcycles (4-wheeled bicycle) which was a hilarious sight. I had to finish the trip with a couple visits to the gelato shop. One of my favorites, so I had to go twice!
