Montreal, Quebec - Logan Aronhalt scored 21 points in leading UAlbany to an 83-58 exhibition victory over McGill University on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Love Competition Hall. The Great Danes won for the second straight night to start a five-game, seven-day Canada tour of Quebec and Ontario.
Leading 38-30 at halftime, UAlbany pulled away with seven straight points to begin the third quarter. Mike Black made a jumper and Ralph Watts added a three-point field goal to jump-start that stretch. Watts, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, finished with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench. Aronhalt, who made 7-of-14 from the floor, ended the run with a basket.
The Great Danes, who shot better than 55 percent from the field in the final half for the second game in a row, were still ahead, 50-37, late in the quarter, but then ripped off eight unanswered. Gerardo Suero, a junior college transfer from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, wrapped four free throws around Jacob Iati's made jumper. Watts' basket off a feed from freshman Peter Hooley extended the margin to 21 points with 40 seconds left in the period.
The Redmen, who last played six days ago in an loss NCAA Division I opponent Akron, trailed by as much as 17 in the second quarter, but sliced that deficit in half by the intermission. Winn Clark, a 6'3" guard from Mission Hills, Kan., drilled a three-pointer and Cody Mazza-Anthony hit a jumper on the last play of the opening half to close the gap. Mazza-Anthony, a 6-foot-6 forward, finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
"We got off to a slow start and struggled on the glass in the first half," UAlbany coach Will Brown explained. "We played a very strong third quarter, especially defensively. Logan (Aronhalt) performed well offensively for the second straight game. McGill was well coached and played together."
Simon Bibeau had 16 points for the Redmen, who shot 37.1 percent overall, including 10-of-32 after halftime. Suero netted 10 points, while freshmen Tanner Gibson and Chris Page each added eight. UAlbany plays an all-star group from Dawson College on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Logan Aronhalt Blog (Aug. 20, 10:05 p.m) - Just finished game number two with a win. We started out a little sluggish but picked the intensity in the second half. McGill was a solid team that played hard and was very good defensively.
Today the team explored more of Montreal. Some of the guys rented bikes, but a few guys and I took to the streets by foot. We found some new shops and nice shopping mall (only thing I couldn't find was a wallet which I desperately need). I saw some pretty cool recycled artwork in the mall too (I guess Montreal is going green). Most importantly, I got some better food today and had a solid pre-game meal. Tomorrow we're going to go see some historic sites of Montreal, but for tonight we're going to see what Montreal has to offer in terms of nightlife. Should be fun night for the guys!
