Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Dave Kubiak and Nolan Gaige were named to the America East Baseball All-Conference Second Team, while Josh Nethaway earned all-rookie recognition, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, May 24.
Kubiak, a senior pitcher from Southhold, N.Y., earned his third straight all-conference honor. An all-rookie team member as a freshman, he was named to the all-conference second team as a sophomore and was a first-team member last season. The right-hander holds a 6-6 record in 13 starts this season with a 4.66 ERA. He has thrown five complete games, including one shutout, and leads the staff with 69 strikeouts in 75.1 innings of work.
Gaige, an all-rookie team member a year ago, leads the Great Danes this year, hitting .319 with a team-high 60 hits. An outfielder who is the only member of the UAlbany squad to start all 48 games this season, Gaige has scored a team-best 47 runs and has driven in 26 more. The sophomore from East Greenbush, N.Y. has recorded eight doubles, four home runs and two triples, and also leads the team with nine stolen bases on the season.
Nethaway garnered all-rookie accolades in his redshirt campaign after missing his true freshman season due to injury. This year, he has split time between catcher and designated hitter, while also seeing some time in the outfield. He is batting .278 on the season and is second on the team with 45 hits, including 11 doubles and three home runs. Nethaway, who hail from Fonda, N.Y., leads the team with 34 RBI and has scored 20 runs.
