Field Hockey's Troch, Luke & Schwoyer Earn America East All-Academic Honors

Cambridge, Mass. - A unanimous choice and two-time America East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Kristi Troch highlights three University at Albany student-athletes named to the America East Field Hockey All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Troch is joined by juniors Taylor Luke and Brianna Schwoyer; all three juniors were 2010 conference all-academic honorees as well.

     Troch, who lead the Great Danes to a solid 2011 season and conference-best seven team shutouts, has maintained a 3.62 grade point average as a human biology major. Troch is one of three America East field hockey players to be on both the all-academic squad and all-conference first team this season.

     Luke, a second team all-conference player, received a unanimous vote like Troch and holds a 3.69 GPA in the classroom as a human biology major to grab her second all-academic nod. Schwoyer, also a human biology major, performs in the classroom at owns a 3.89 cumulative GPA.

     America East honored 11 student-athletes who excel both academically as well as athletically for their respect teams. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games. As for in the classroom, holding a 3.30 GPA or higher and having completed at least one calendar year at the student-athletes institution is a requirement.

Paw Prints: Since the America East All-Academic squads have been in existence (June 2005), UAlbany field hockey has been represented 16 times for their academic performance in the classroom ... Nine players have split those awards, including three-time honoree Ashley Ross ('08) and another two-time winner Sarah Deane ('10).
