UAlbany Punter Paul Layton Named Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week

Somerset, N.J. - University at Albany's Paul Layton has been selected Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week in football, as announced on Monday, Oct. 31 by the conference office. Layton, a sophomore from Burnt Hills, N.Y., earned the conference award for the second time this season.
Despite blizzard conditions, a snow-covered field, and 20 mile-per-hour winds, Layton averaged 38.3 yards in six punting attempts during a 24-0 victory over Wagner. He helped provide his team with favorable field position and booted a 58-yarder from his own end zone in the second quarter. Three of his punts went to the Seahawks' 20-yard line and beyond. He also assisted placekicker Herb Glass as the holder on all placements. In the wintry conditions, Glass made all three point-after attempts and a 23-yard field goal.
Layton is fourth among the Division I FCS national leaders with a 43.8 punting average. He has placed 17 punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line and has 13 kicks of 50 yards or longer this season.
