Albany, N.Y. - Martina Loncarica scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead #9 Syracuse to a 2-1 win over #18 UAlbany in non-conference field hockey action at Alumni Turf Field on Sunday afternoon.

            UAlbany got on the scoreboard first, with a goal from Corrine McConville in the 26th minute on a penalty corner. Christina Patrick inserted the ball to Suzy Clephane, who tapped the ball to McConville for a hard shot straight into the cage past Syracuse goalkeeper Rachel Sayer. Syracuse tied the game before the half, as Loncarica crossed the ball from the left to Kristin Girouard, who deflected the ball into the top of the net at 32:16. The two teams played through a scoreless second half to head into an extra period.

            Just under seven minutes into overtime, Loncarica took a tip from Leonie Geyer in front of the cage, putting the ball past UAlbany goalkeeper Kristi Troch into the low right post. Troch made eight saves for the Great Danes between the pipes, while starter Christine Hoffman made four saves in the first half. Sayer stopped three shots for Syracuse (8-4). The Orange outshot UAlbany, 24-6, and held a slight 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.

            UAlbany (11-3) will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, visiting Vermont for an America East Conference matchup at 2 p.m.
