Boston, Mass. ? Sarah Dalton scored six goals and McKinley Curro added four in leading nationally-ranked Boston University to a 15-9 victory over UAlbany in America East Conference play on Saturday, March 28 at Nickerson Field. The Terriers, who have won four in a row, are No. 12 in both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse national polls.
Boston U. (6-3, AE 1-0) led 11-6 early in the second half, but then pulled away with four unanswered. Traci Landy, a junior attacker, did all of her scoring in that stretch with three goals. Landy started that run by converting a free-position attempt and scoring unassisted. Dalton, an All-America midfielder, added her sixth of the game and 41st of the season. Landy found the cage off another free-position opportunity, her 23rd of he year, with 15:02 remaining.
The Terriers leaped to a 4-0 advantage in the opening six-plus minutes of the contest. Dalton, the program's all-time goals leader with 197, tallied back-to-back goals 11 seconds apart. Boston U. still led 7-2 after freshman Hannah Frey connected in a free-position situation and Curro scored unassisted with 18:20 to play in the period. The Terriers, who have won all 11 games in this series, including last year's America East semifinal victory, held a four-goal lead at the intermission.
Sophomore Jodi Battaglia led UAlbany (4-6, AE 1-1) with three goals, while Julie Bush added one goal and two assists. The Great Danes, who strung together three consecutive victories coming into the contest, were attempting to win their first two conference games for the first time since joining the league in the 2002 season.
Goalkeeper Rachel Klein stopped seven shots for the Terriers, who have won 26 straight against unranked opponents, dating back to April 7, 2007. UAlbany's Kayla Best had one goal to extend her goal- and point-scoring streak to 40 consecutive games.
