Clephane and Savage Named to Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region Team

Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany's Nicole Savage and Suzy Clephane were named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Northeast Region Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. It is the first all-region honor for both players.

Clephane, a junior from Auckland, New Zealand, became the second UAlbany player to earn the America East Conference Defensive Player of the Year honor, following Michele Polizois in 2008. Clephane, who plays on both offensive and defensive penalty corner units, finished with four goals and four assists and made one defensive save. She was also a unanimous selection to the all-conference first team.

Savage, a senior forward, leads the Great Danes this season with seven goals and nine assists for 23 total points. A two-time player of the week, Savage started all 16 games for UAlbany this season and earned her fourth straight all-conference award with a spot on the America East first team.

UAlbany, ranked 18th in the final Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, finished out the season with a 13-5 record, falling to Boston U. in the America East Conference Championship. The Great Danes made their third straight appearance in the league title game after winning the program's second consecutive regular season title.
