Albany, N.Y. ? Senior forward Lauren Aird recorded the gamewinning goal just 44 seconds into overtime to lead No. 6 Connecticut to a 2-1 win over UAlbany in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon. Aird also recorded an assist in the game.

            After playing 50 scoreless minutes, UAlbany struck first, as senior Michele Polizois drove the ball hard across the circle, where senior forward Michelle Simpson tipped the ball in off Connecticut goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero's pads into the back of the cage. The Huskies tied the game three minutes later as senior Jennifer Kleinhans took a pass from Aird after the initial pass on a penalty corner and slipped the ball past UAlbany goaltender Ashley Ross.

            The two reversed roles on the overtime goal, as Connecticut took possession at the start of the overtime period and went directly to the cage. Kleinhans passed the ball from the left hand side, where Aird collected and tipped the ball past Ross for the sudden victory.

            UAlbany held a slight 11-10 advantage in shots, while both teams recorded six penalty corners. Mainiero finished with three saves in the cage for Connecticut (11-1), while Ross stopped four shots for the Great Danes.

            UAlbany (7-9) will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, as they visit Fairfield for an America East Conference matchup.
