Princeton, N.J. ? UAlbany's Joe Greene was crowned the 400-meter hurdles champion with a season-best time of 50.65 seconds at the 131st IC4A Track and Field Championships on Sunday afternoon at Princeton University's Weaver Track & Field Stadium. The Great Danes were fourth in the team standings, the highest finish in the program's history at this meet. Liberty won the competition with 77 points, while Virginia (66.50), Manhattan (51) and UAlbany (47) followed in the order.
Greene, who improved his NCAA East qualifying time, was well ahead of Coppin State's Steve Delice, who hit the line in 51.45. Greene also ran the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay that established a UAlbany record of 40.78 seconds. Pat Weider, Junior Burnett and Raphael Jean-Baptiste were also on a relay that placed third overall.
Gered Burns finished second in the 800-meter run. Champion Tim Bayley of Iona, edged him at the finish by 13-hundredths of the second. Burns, who set a school record in qualifying, posted a time of 1:50.13. Burnett finished third in the 400-meter dash, as he crossed the line in 47.65 seconds.
In the 24th annual ECAC competition, Sarah Charles finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-feet, 10.25-inches. Jessica Ortman took sixth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.10.
