MICHELLE SIMPSON & JESS LINDSEY SWEEP WEEKLY A-EAST FIELD HOCKEY AWARDS
Boston, Mass. -- UAlbany's Michelle Simpson has been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week in field hockey, while freshman defender Jess Lindsey was tabbed America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced by the conference on Monday, Sept. 11.
Simpson scored five goals and added an assist in two games last week. In UAlbany's 6-0 shutout of crosstown-rival Siena on Sept. 6, she scored two unassisted tallies and recorded an assist on a penalty corner goal. In a non-conference tilt against Saint Francis, Pa. two days later, Simpson notched her second hat trick of the season, scoring three straight goals for the Great Danes, who recorded their second consecutive shutout. Simpson now has a team-best eight goals and five assists for 21 total points and leads the conference in goals and points.
Lindsey, who has started all six games this season, is tied for third on the team with eight points after recording five assists and one goal last week. Lindsey assisted on two goals during the Great Danes' 6-0 win over Siena, before recording her first collegiate goal to go along with three assists against St. Francis, Pa. Lindsey is ranked second in the conference in assists.
