GORDON'S LATE GOAL HELPS UALBANY EDGE MAINE, 2-1
Orono, Maine - Freshman defenseman Brian Gordon scored with under three minutes remaining to lift the UAlbany men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over America East Conference-rival Maine in a match on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Alumni Field. The win puts the Great Danes one step closer to their third consecutive berth in the conference's postseason tournament.
UAlbany (6-6-2, AE 4-2-0) tallied the lone goal of the first half when sophomore defenseman Kurt Ruhe Lischke scored at 25:26 off a left-side pass from sophomore forward Gaby Seguin-Gauthier. The Black Bears tied the game nine minutes into the second half when senior midfielder Cooper Friend put home a penalty kick.
Gordon later gave the Great Danes the victory with 2:28 left in the match, scoring his second goal of the season, assisted by sophomore midfielder Don Johnson.
UAlbany sophomore goaltender Steward Ceus picked up his sixth win of the season, making three saves, while Maine sophomore keeper Ben Piotrowski stopped five shots. The Black Bears are still searching for their first victory of the year, dropping to 0-14-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play.
The Great Danes travel to Boston University for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, Oct. 14 before returning for their final home match of the regular season at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
