Mike Wiand was named the offensive coordinator at the University at Albany on January 2, 2026.
Wiand joined the Great Danes following a highly successful seven-season tenure at Susquehanna University, where he most recently served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. During his time at Susquehanna, he played a critical role in the River Hawks’ ascent to national prominence, helping lead the program to four consecutive conference championships from 2022 to 2025 and multiple NCAA Playoff appearances. Under his direct guidance, the Susquehanna offense reached new heights, producing numerous All-American and All-Conference performers, including the two-time Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Throughout his rapid rise in the coaching ranks, Wiand proved to be a versatile and impactful leader. After joining the Susquehanna staff in 2018 as a running backs coach, he steadily took on expanded responsibilities, including overseeing wide receivers, coordinating the kickoff return unit, and managing the strength and conditioning program for several athletic teams. His 2019 rushing attack led the Centennial Conference with 32 touchdowns on the ground, averaging over 183 yards per game. By 2022, he transitioned to coaching quarterbacks and served as the offensive pass game coordinator before his promotion to the lead offensive coordinator role in 2024. His contributions were a cornerstone of a coaching staff that earned multiple Coaching Staff of the Year honors during his tenure.
Prior to his coaching career, Wiand was a standout linebacker at East Stroudsburg University, where he earned a Bachelor’s in exercise science in 2018. A three-year starter for the Warriors, he was a 2016 All-PSAC East selection and a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. He finished his collegiate playing career with 201 tackles, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles, and was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Wiand began his collegiate journey at Penn State University, where he spent two seasons as a member of the Nittany Lions' program. A native of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, he was a three-time All-District selection at Mifflinburg High School, where he also lettered in basketball and track and field.
