Mekana Barnes joins the UAlbany staff as a graduate assistant coach.
Barnes played internationally with Valenciana Benidorm Spain. She averaged 2.33 points and 0.83 blocks per set in a three-match tour of China. Barnes also played with the US Women's National Team in 2009, recording seven kills and one service ace against Egypt.
Barnes, a 2009 graduate of Colorado State, was the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and was an AVCA All-West Region honoree as a senior in 2008. She led the conference in block average with 1.50 per set and helped Colorado State reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Barnes earned a dual Master's Degree in psychology and sociology.
