Roy Pfeil

Roy Pfeil enters his sixth season as an assistant coach and 15th overall with the University at Albany men’s soccer program. Pfeil, who served as the Great Danes’ head coach from 1991-99, works primarily with the team’s goalkeepers. In his current role, he worked with Bouna Coundoul, who went on to garner the conference goalkeeper of the year award and was recently named to the Senegal national team which competed in the African Cup of Nations hosted by Ghana this past winter.

Prior to UAlbany, where he posted three campaigns with ten wins or more as head coach, he served as the women’s head coach at Hudson Valley Community College from 1988-90. He is a "founding father" of the Capital District Youth Soccer League and served as Vice President of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association. He is also an Olympic Development Program (ODP) coach for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association.

Pfeil graduated from SUNY-Cortland in 1971. The member of the coaching staff for the women’s under-19 national team and physical education teacher in the Shenendehowa school system resides in Clifton Park with his wife, Ginny, and their three children.
