John Svec

John Svec, who works with UAlbany’s defense, is in his seventh year as an assistant coach on Scott Marr's staff. The Great Danes ranked fifth nationally in scoring margin (+4.33/game) last season in advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals. UAlbany allowed 9.4 goals per game overall.

Under Svec's guidance over the last six seasons, UAlbany is allowing 7.85 goals per game against America East Conference opponents in regular-season play. In 2004, UAlbany ranked eighth among the NCAA Division I leaders in man-down percentage (.819).

Svec was a four-year letterman at Loyola College in Maryland from 1997-2001. He was positioned as a defenseman and as a member of the man-down unit as a junior and senior. The Greyhounds posted a 10-4 record and reached the 2001 NCAA quarterfinal round. Loyola made four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including the 1998 Final Four at Rutgers Stadium. A native of Arnold, Md., Svec earned a B.A. in elementary education.
