A veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Ross served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988 through 1994, holding duties as a light armored reconnaissance company commander, infantry platoon commander and aviation logistics supervisor. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Navy in 1988 and captained the Mids' track and field team as a senior.
