Three Great Danes Selected for 2015-16 U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Tryouts

BALTIMORE, MD. – Three former and current University at Albany women’s lacrosse players from the last two seasons were named to the 2015-16 tryout pool for the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse National Team, US Lacrosse announced Tuesday morning. Class of 2014 midfielder/defender Ariana Parker, as well as 2015’s Maureen Keggins and junior Rachel Bowles were three of the 108 players selected.

Bowles and Keggins were named IWLCA First Team All-Region on Monday. The pair combined for 171 points for the Great Danes in 2015. Keggins was named the America East Offensive Player of the Year after leading the nation in points, points per game, assists and assists per game. The senior was an America East First Team All-Conference selection in addition to her IWLCA honors. She broke the all-time UAlbany career mark in assists, as well as the single season records in assists and points.

Bowles returns for one more season at UAlbany in 2016, and is a two-time IWLCA All-Region First Team selection. She scored 56 goals to go with 20 assists this season, and is well on her way to smashing the all-time career points and goals records for the Danes. The junior is among the NCAA Division I career leaders in points and goals.

Parker graduated in 2014 after setting a then-program record in games started with 71. She ranks tied for third in career points at UAlbany with 184, and fourth in career goals with 146. A midfielder on both sides of the ball, Parker is also third in caused turnovers and fifth in ground balls for the Danes. She was a three-time IWLCA All-Region selection and four-time America East All-Conference pick.

The 108 players named to the tryout pool will congregate June 12-14 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. After the three-day tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2015-16 U.S. Women's National Team, which will train in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
