LOCATION: Siena Softball Field - Loudonville, N.Y.

SHORT STORY: Head coach Chris Cannata became the 56th coach in NCAA Division I history to reach 900 career wins when the Great Danes won the first game of a doubleheader at Siena, Wednesday.

GAME ONE

SCORE:
UAlbany 5, Siena 3

KEY STATS
  • Junior Taylor Quinn led the team with two hits, including one double, and three RBI.
  • Freshman Katie Parisi added two hits, both doubles, two RBI, and one run.
  • Junior Mary Kate Murray tallied a team-high three hits while senior Sara Anderson scored a team-best two runs.
  • Sophomore Hailey Errichiello averaged one strikeout per inning through the first four complete innings. Freshman Julia Pike took over in the fifth and pitched four strikeouts on her way to the extra-inning win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first inning, Siena's Grace Goewey scored a run with a solo home run.
  • The Great Danes took the lead in the fourth after Hailey Errichiello pitched two strikeouts in the bottom of the third.
  • With two runners in scoring position, Taylor Quinn hit a double down the left field line to bring in both Sara Anderson and sophomore Sara Scozzari.
  • Siena once again hit a solo home run, this time from Emma Petersen, in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.
  • As both teams were unable to put a runner on base in the seventh, the game headed to the eighth inning.
  • With runners on first and third and no outs, a double from Katie Parisi made it a 4-2 game.
  • Quinn followed with her second hit of the day, a single deep enough into center field to bring in Parisi.
  • The Saints were able to score one but left two on base as the Great Danes took the 5-3 eight-inning victory.
  • With the win, head coach Chris Cannata became the 56th coach to earn 900 wins as a coach in NCAA Division I history. She is the second coach to reach that milestone this year after Kelly Inouye-Perez (UCLA, Mar. 22).

GAME TWO

SCORE:
Siena 5, UAlbany 4

KEY STATS
  • Katie Parisi led the team with two hits, both doubles, for one RBI and one run.
  • Julia Pike and Mary Kate Murray each added two hits.
  • All but one starter earned at least one hit in the second game at Siena.
  • Sophomore pitcher Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Great Danes started the scoring in the first inning.
  • After Julia Pike took first base on balls, she took advantage of a sacrifice bunt from Anderson to get to third. A double from Katie Parisi brought her home for the first run of the game.
  • The Saints took the lead with a two-run homer from Petersen in the bottom of the first.
  • Following two scoreless innings, UAlbany earned a one-run advantage in the top of the fourth before extending it to two runs in the fifth.
  • With two outs on the scoreboard, redshirt-junior Gaelen Kelly, sophomore Ava Beal, and Julia Pike hit three consecutive singles to score the first run (Kelly).
  • Beal took advantage of an error at third base to score an additional run.
  • Getting on base with a walk, Parisi made her way around the bases with senior Deanna Grahek getting the RBI to make it a 4-2 game after five complete innings.
  • In the fourth and fifth innings alone, Hayley Wieczerzak pitched four strikeouts.
  • Siena's Goewey hit a second home run to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Despite two singles in the top of the seventh, the Great Danes were unable to score any additional runs.
  • With the bases loaded and one out, the Saint hit a sky-high foul ball above home plate. Tipping off Kelly's (UAlbany catcher) glove, Wieczerzak tabbed the second out with the catch.
  • Despite the team work to get the first two outs, a double from the next batter brought home two runs for the walk-off win from Siena, 5-4.

NEXT: With a canceled weekend series, the Great Danes have added a game to the schedule and will play a single game at Fordham on Saturday (April 11). First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
