HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UAlbany established its presence in the paint early as Martina Borrellas and Delanie Hill each finished at the rim to help the Great Danes settle in.
  • Defensively, UAlbany limited Vermont to 33.3 percent shooting from the field and 0-4 from three while matching the Catamounts on the glass.
  • Bella Stuart closed the period with a layup off a turnover to send the Great Danes into the second quarter with a two-point lead.
  • Amaya Stewart and Hill sparked the offense to start the second frame and combined with junior Lara Langermann for a 6-0 run.
  • Stewart's work on the offensive glass and a Langermann finish inside helped the Great Danes build their largest lead of the night at 26-17 with just over three minutes to play in the half.
  • Vermont responded with a late push, but UAlbany maintained the upper hand and went into the break ahead 28-25 after two quarters.
  • Hill opened the second half with a drive to the rim, and senior Gabriela Falcão followed with a paint jumper off a feed from Borrellas to extend the lead to five.
  • Stewart's layup and Stuart's trip to the free-throw line kept UAlbany in front as the teams traded baskets in a tightly played period.
  • In the closing minute, Borrellas connected from beyond the arc on the right wing to preserve the advantage and send the Great Danes to the fourth quarter up 40-37.
  • Vermont went on a 15-2 scoring run in the first five minutes of quarter four.
  • Borrellas continued to attack and added seven points in the final minutes to keep the Great Danes within striking distance at 56-49.
