ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women's volleyball head coach
Josh Pickard has announced the hiring of Kevin Baran-Maguire as the program's Assistant Coach.
Â
"UAlbany volleyball is excited to add a coach like Kevin to our staff," said Pickard. "His experience on both the men's and women's side of the game will be integral in our team's development as we move forward. From the moment we met him, we felt like he would fit well and help to propel the team to even greater heights."
Â
Baran-Maguire comes to UAlbany after serving as the assistant women's and men's volleyball coach at Jessup University from 2024 to 2025. On the women's side, he helped lead the program to a 19-13 record in its first season competing in NCAA Division II, finishing tied for fourth in the PacWest Conference and reaching the NCCAA National Tournament championship match. On the men's side, he guided the inaugural NCAA Division II squad to a 15-9 record, an NCCAA National Championship, and notable wins over Vanguard University and Menlo University. He was responsible for offensive and blocking systems, scouting reports, and gameplan execution.
Â
"I am excited for the opportunity to join the coaching staff," said Baran-Maguire. "After my meetings with the staff and athletes, it was clear that this is a program I wanted to be a part of. This team has strong goals and a strong culture as well. Josh [Pickard] and Heather [Feldman] are incredibly knowledgeable about the sport of volleyball, and I am excited to bring my experience to add to theirs. This team is eager to learn and grow, and the energy is contagious. Go Great Danes!"
Â
Before Jessup, Baran-Maguire spent two seasons with the Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball program, first as a graduate assistant and later as an assistant coach. During his tenure, the Eagles earned five ranked upset victories, including wins over Loyola University Chicago, Grand Canyon, and Pepperdine. He also contributed to securing a top-10-ranked recruiting class in 2024.
Â
In addition to his collegiate coaching roles, Baran-Maguire has coached at multiple club programs, including ProPlay Volleyball Club, where his 14U team finished third in the Southern California region, and Pulse Volleyball Club, where he worked with athletes who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I and II levels. He is also an experienced private volleyball instructor and a certified volleyball referee in California.
Â
As a player, Baran-Maguire competed collegiately at Rivier University (N.H.) and Hope International University (Calif.), earning all-conference honors in 2015 and 2016, all-region honors in 2016, and ranking fourth in the NAIA in kills in 2016.
Â
Born in Toronto, Canada and a native of Orange County, Calif., Baran-Maguire earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Hope International University in 2016 and his Master of Coaching and Athletics Administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2023.
