Men’s Lacrosse Returns Home, Hosts UMBC

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men's lacrosse team returns home to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium this Saturday as the Great Danes host the UMBC Retrievers. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.

Leading the Pack
  • UAlbany is currently averaging 11.4 goals per game with opponents averaging 12.5.

  • Ryan Doherty continues to lead the America East in both goals (22) and goals per game (2.75). He sits second in the conference in points (29) and points per game (3.63).   • Neeson leads in the caused turnover department with 12. He is followed by Jacob Smith (10) and Galko (6).
  • In the cage, Brady Smith sports an 11.48 GAA and a .517 save percentage. His GAA ranks fourth in the conference, his save percentage ranks third.
  • Landon Whitney was given the start in the cage on Tuesday, posting a career-high 17 saves against the Cavaliers.
  • Five different Great Danes have taken faceoffs so far this year.

Last Time Out
The Great Danes played hard on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers on Tuesday afternoon but eventually fell by a score of 12-9.  
  • Daniel Kesselring led the team with four points, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
  • Silas Richmond and Jackson Palumb also scored twice each.
  • Cade Galko scored his first collegiate goal with the long pole. The defenseman finished tied for the team lead (Max Neeson) with six ground balls, adding a caused turnover.
  • CJ Schwarz led the Great Danes at the X, going 13-21.
  • Landon Whitney got the start in net and had a career outing, notching 17 saves.
 
Around the America East
Conference play resumes this weekend with six teams in action. UMass Lowell will take advantage of a bye week.

History with UMBC
UAlbany and UMBC have been going head-to-head since the 2004 season. Since that first game, UAlbany holds a 17-12 all-time advantage. The Great Danes have been particularly strong when playing at home (8-3) and have been even stronger when in the postseason (7-2). The Great Danes haven't fallen at home to the Retrievers since 2011. Over the last 10 matchups between the two conference rivals, UAlbany has gone 8-2.
 
Scouting UMBC
UMBC comes into Saturday's game with an overall record of 3-2. The Retrievers started the season with wins at Drexel and on the road against Mount St. Mary's before dropping a home game against Towson and a road matchup with #13 Richmond. Most recently, the Retrievers started America East play with a big home win over Vermont.
  • UMBC was picked fourth in the America East Preseason Poll.
  • Middy Jordan Galloway was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Through five games, the team is averaging 9.8 goals per game with opponents averaging 10.0

  • Galloway leads the team in both goals (11) and assists (6). He is followed by Corey Myers, who has recorded 10 goals.
